Driver hits pedestrian at Claremont and The Uplands

A pedestrian was rushed to Highland Hospital with a trauma activation after a driver struck him at Claremont Avenue and The Uplands on Tuesday night.

The incident was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m., according to radio traffic reviewed by The Scanner.

The pedestrian appeared to be in his 50s, and was unresponsive and bleeding from the head after the crash, according to early reports.

BPD called in its Fatal Accident Investigation Team due to the severity of his injuries.

The driver remained at the scene, police said.

Berkeley police have closed Claremont Avenue, from Woolsey Street to Prince Street, to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic until further notice.
