A magnitude 3.0 earthquake hit Berkeley on Monday evening, the third to shake the city in just 16 hours.
The evening quake’s epicenter was near Claremont Avenue and Tunnel Road next to John Muir Elementary School.
The earthquake was recorded just after 6:20 p.m. with a depth of 4.4 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The day’s significant seismic activity began just before 3 a.m. when a magnitude 4.3 earthquake just south of UC Berkeley woke much of the Bay Area.
A magnitude 2.6 earthquake followed at about 8 a.m. also near Claremont and Tunnel.

There have been just eight other quakes in or near Berkeley since Jan. 1, 2023, according to USGS data.
