Man dead after solo scooter crash in Berkeley

A man was pronounced dead Saturday night in Berkeley after what appears to have been a solo scooter crash, authorities report.

A community member heard the collision and went outside to find a man on the ground, Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.

Police found the man on California Street near Addison Street. He was unresponsive and had no pulse, according to early reports.

Officers performed life-saving measures until firefighters arrived.

They pronounced the man dead at the scene.

BPD’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team and the coroner’s office have been called out.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
