A half-dozen teenagers armed with at least two handguns robbed a popular Berkeley doughnut shop and then ran off with a cash register from a nearby gas station early Wednesday morning, authorities report.
The incident began at about 6:30 a.m. when the boys robbed Dream Fluff Donuts at 2637 Ashby Ave., Berkeley police said in response to a Scanner inquiry.
The teens wore gloves, masks and dark clothing during the armed robbery, police said.
The group of six stole money from the cash register and then got into two dark-colored sedans and drove off, Berkeley police said.
Minutes later, a group of eight teenagers ran inside the Chevon gas station at 2996 Telegraph Ave., just five blocks west of Dream Fluff.
The group “grabbed the cash register and numerous other items from inside the store” and then got into three dark-colored vehicles and left, BPD said.
Police said no one was hurt during either incident.
Both crimes were unusual for Berkeley, which has seen a drop in robberies this year after last year’s spike.
