The driver, who fled the scene, was identified as 22-year-old Fahran Ayubi of Richmond, police said Tuesday.

The grandparents, a 78-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, remain in the hospital.

Family members have now traveled from Spain to help with the couple’s recovery, which is expected to take a long time.

The couple was in a crosswalk at University Avenue and Eighth Street when a driver struck them Wednesday shortly before 9 p.m.

Ayubi was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of two counts of felony hit-and-run resulting in injury.
